Intro

I bought my first house a little over two years ago, about the same time I got married. Since then we have already dealt with many things, such as the loss of my job, the death of one of our pets, and the collapse of the economy, but one thing that has come out of this is the true meaning of home. When we bought this house it was my intention to make it our home, to build a life together, build traditions, enjoy each others company and the company of friends and family. This has developed into learning and enjoying many new things. Cleaning took on a whole new meaning, cooking, gardening/yard work and building/home repairs all became a duty, not just something done for fun. But these things don't have to, and shouldn't be a chore. If we could just unplug ourselves, slow things down, and take time to enjoy the things that truly make the four walled and roofed structure we live in a Home.

The things I will be covering in this blog will all be a throwback to the times before we lived on cookie cutter houses on postage stamp lots, considered take out as cooking, used hazardous chemicals to 'clean' our homes, and saw the world in front of a TV screen. I might sound like a Hippie tree hugging old lady, but in reality I am a 27 year old male living in a major metropolitan city who is tired of hearing the term 'green' about everything. I have also learned that the way we are living right now is not necessarily an advancement of civilization. We are disconnected from people and the world around us. We have grown lazy and over weight, preferring games in front of the computer instead of games outside. We no longer enjoy our food, and the quality of that food has declined to almost unrecognizable levels. It is time to get back to basics, to enjoy the simple pleasures in life, to increase the quality of the time we spend with others, and in turn the quality of the communities around us.

Cheers and happy home-making!
